Fox Sports is finally going to get back to the business of broadcasting live sports content.
In a surprise move, the network will announce Tuesday that it will be broadcasting every game of the NHL playoffs for Fox Sports Live Extra beginning at 10 p.m.
ET on Sunday, March 7, with live broadcasts of every game, starting with the Stanley Cup Final.
That means the NHL will once again be available on Fox Sports, the NFL on Fox, and MLB on Fox.
Fox Sports will also televise the NBA Finals, NBA Playoffs, and NBA Finals rematch between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers.
The network’s lineup will change again, starting Sunday, April 8, with the NBA’s first Finals rematch, a rematch between Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry.
That rematch will be played on Fox after the Warriors’ win, while the Cavaliers will get their first win of the season in Game 1.
Fox’s lineup changes are a result of its merger with the FS1 sports channel.
It will be the network’s first live game broadcast on FS1 since the network was purchased by ESPN in 2007.
And it will serve as a reminder of the success of the FS2 sports network that also aired the Olympics in 2020.
Fox also announced that it has been awarded a new $1.2 billion contract to air the NFL.
That deal is worth an estimated $60 million a year in guaranteed revenue, and Fox Sports CEO Roger Ailes said that he expected the network to generate around $5 billion in revenue for Fox.
“I’m thrilled to announce that we are finally getting back to broadcasting games on our channels,” said Fox Sports President of Networks David Hill.
“The FS2 deal, combined with our exclusive partnership with FS1, means the future of Fox Sports remains bright.
And now that we’ve proven we can deliver our audiences the highest quality sports programming, I’m excited to see what the future holds.”
Fox Sports has long been a favorite of Ailes, who is known for being one of the most popular hosts in sports broadcasting.
“David Ailes has a unique relationship with his network, the FS4,” Hill said.
“We’re proud to have him on board.
It’s the perfect fit.”
